Obituary for James Donald Hines
James (Jim) Donald Hines passed away peacefully at his home in Manassas, Virginia on Tuesday July 28, 2015.
Born in Statesville, NC on October 4, 1937, Jim resided in the Northern Virginia area for 70 years.
He was the devoted husband of Judy Hines, father of Steve (Leighann) Hines of Powhatan, Virginia, Michael Hines of Bangkok, Thailand; Eddie Williams of Manassas, Virginia; Cindy (Tom) Rivera of Hamilton, Virginia and Pop Pop to Jimmy and Katie Hines of Powhatan, Virginia. He is also survived by his mother Janie Hines of Springfield, Virginia; his brother Tom (Gayle) Hines of Nokesville, Virginia and many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Graham Hines, to whom he was married from 1960 until her death in 1985, his father James Brady Hines, and his sister Ginger White.
Jim served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. He began a long and successful career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1959, from which he retired in 1992, followed by sixteen years with Gate Gourmet at Washington Dulles International Airport.
Jim was loved and respected by family, friends and colleagues and left a positive impact on many during his lifetime. He will be fondly remembered for his sharp mind, quick wit, strong work ethic and fierce loyalty to family and friends.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Quantico National Cemetery, Joplin Road, Triangle, Virginia 22191.
