Obituary for John Darryl Medlock

John Darryl Medlock
John Darryl Medlock, 75, of Gainesville, VA, passed away on Friday, October 30th, 2015 at the Adler Center for Caring, Aldie, VA. Born July 18th, 1940, in Topeka, KS, he was the son of the late George L. and Marjorie Early Medlock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda K. Medlock, two children, Johnny and Melissa and five grandchildren.
You have all been with us this past year as we have watched Big John, as he is called in Virginia, face his illness and the many complications and setbacks with such grace, courage, humor, and kindness to everyone. I have a huge amount of love and admiration for him. On October 30, he was able to finally have peace. We had 49 ½ years together, but since we met a year before, I can round it up to 50 years. I don’t think he will mind. He was so full of love and pride for our two children, Johnny and Melissa, and their families. Our five grandchildren were a source of joy to him and will continue to be that for me.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 9:00 am-10:00 a.m. at Centreville Presbyterian Church, 15450 Lee Highway, Centreville, VA 20120, immediately followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary with Pastor J. Robin Bromhead officiating.

Interment will be in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Caring/Adler Center for Caring, 24419 Millstream Drive, Aldie, VA 20105.

I love John’s sense of humor, his generosity and all the other wonderful characteristics he had that made him such a great friend and neighbor. Like a good Marine, he battled nobly until it was God’s will for him to rest for all eternity.
I loved his laughter and the joy he saw in the world around him. I will always picture John with Charlie walking in the morning. . quietly helping neighbors. He was a gentle giant among men. He never complained and even in the days he was hurting he never lost his wonderful sense of humor. Those who were privileged to know him were truly blessed.
John was such an easy man to love. It was a joy to work with him. I’m certain his wonderful spirit will be welcomed with open arms. He will be missed. Loved his smile and his positive outlook on life.
