Annette Smith was born on March 20, 1944 in Nassau, Bahamas, daughter of Thelma Mae and raised by Mae and Robert Eller.

In her early years, Annette lived in the Bahamas and worked as a beautician before moving to the States. Married for 53 years to Al, lovingly nicknamed Smitty, Annette and Smitty began their journey together at Charleston Air Force Station in Maine. In Maine, the oldest daughter Faith was born before the family was transferred to Iowa. In Iowa, Smitty, Annette and Faith welcomed middle daughter Melissa before moving to Montana. Annette was a devoted Air Force wife and mother.
