The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Walter Higgins can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Memories

I consider Ed, aka Fast Eddie, to be my best friend.  I met him almost 45 years ago when he was selected to be my replacement at the 222nd Personnel Services Company in Vietnam.  Over the rest of our military careers we served together in St. Louis, Fort Sam Houston, and Washington, D.C and we ended up retiring within a couple of miles of each other in Burke, VA.  The years are filled with so many wonderful memories – happy hour at the Pit at Fort Sam; car pool trips during the Washington DC rush hours; game nights with our families; weekly breakfasts at Friendly’s; monthly poker games with the MSC gang (Alex, Frank, Jerry, Mark, Mike, and Roger); and yearly poker trips to Deep Creek Lake -- to name a few.  And my favorite part of all those events was our conversations.  We would talk about everything and anything – politics, religion, world problems (which we attempted to solve), his beloved Yankees and my beloved Cardinals, our mutual love for the Dallas Cowboys, and stories of his kids – Tracie and Michael -- from their childhood to adulthood.  Tracie and Michael provided Ed so much pride and joy and I am sure they, along with Julia and Maddox, inspired his strength to fight his long battle with cancer.  Eddie, I miss you – thanks for being such a good and loyal friend.  Goodbye old friend, keep your powder dry!
