The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Richard Claypool can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

first coach

I first met Coach Claypool on a hot Monday moring in August, 1958. I arrived at George Washington High School in Alexandria to become a member of the first freshmen team at the school and he was our coach. I will never forget first seeing him kick footballs higher and farther then I could believe. Our first football game was with St Stephens H.S. and he was just as nervous as we were, but we won! Then, we won again the next week against Hammond H.S.  We finished the season 2-2-1. We were the first football team at GW regardless of level in many years that did not have a lossing season. I believe the experiences he had with us that memorible season helped him to become a very successful coach. I know for a fact that he helped me to become a better person and one that could  stand up to any challenge. I owe him alot and I will never forget him. I also know that it was because of him that in my junior year I was selected to go to Boys  State. Coach, thank you for being a part of my life
