Colonel Fredrick C. Perkins, USA (Retired) was born June 8, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of a career Air Force Officer. He passed away suddenly at home on May 7, 2022, in Haymarket, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents LTC. William M. and Augusta (Gussy) Perkins of Utah, and his Sister Candice Crouch of Idaho.

After growing up in various cities around the world with his military family, Fred attended Washington State University and was a member of the Varsity Football Team and was a cadet in the ROTC program. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, he was commissioned an Army Second Lieutenant. Fred requested immediate active duty and began his 29-year military career as the Installation Transportation Officer 3rd Infantry Division (Mech) Wurzburg, Germany. During his long career he held many positions in the Transportation community including the Service Management Officer, Directorate of Logistics, Ft. Eustis VA; Assistant S3, 28th Transportation Battalion, Mannheim Germany; Commander of the 109th Transportation Company (POL), Mannheim Germany, Commander Rhine River Terminal, Mannheim Germany; Division Transportation Officer, 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC; Deputy G4, 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC; Executive Officer 407th Supply and Service Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC; Executive Officer, 27th Transportation Battalion (MC), Bremerhaven, Germany: Logistics Staff Officer, Logistics Plans and Policy Division, HQ U.S. European Command: Commander, 7th Transportation Battalion (Airborne), 1st Corps Support Command, Ft. Bragg, NC; G3, 1st Corps Support Command, Ft. Bragg, NC; Commander, 7th Corps Support Group, 3rd Corps Support Command, Bamberg, Germany; Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, 21st Theater Army Area Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany and Chief, Logistics Operations Division, HQ U.S. European Command, Patch Barracks, Germany.

He was most proud of being a paratrooper with the elite 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and serving in multiple combat operations. His awards include: The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Joint Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Campaign Medal, SouthWest Asia Kuwaiti Liberation Medal and the NATO Medal.

After retiring from military service as a Colonel in (1999), Fred continued to serve the Defense Department while working for several military contractors including: Northrop Grumman, Shaw and CB&I
Colonel Perkins had a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Washington State University and a Master of Science Degree in Transportation Management from Florida Institute of Technology. He was a graduate of the Army Transportation Officer Advanced Course, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Logistics Executive Development Course, Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.

In retirement, Fred lived with his beloved wife of 49 years, Lore, in Haymarket, Virginia, where he was an active member of the community. He loved golfing, fishing, and spending time with friends. Fred and Lore enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to visit many countries around the world. More than anything, Fred was a devoted husband, proud father and father-in-law, and an especially proud grandfather.

Fredrick is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Hannelore F. Perkins of Haymarket, VA; his son, Charles O. Reed of Fayetteville, NC; his grandchild, Kathryne (Katie) N. Bojorquez, and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jacon and brother Mike Perkins of Utah.
